Opened in 1956, the Vancouver Aquarium is the largest aquarium in Canada and the fifth largest aquarium in North America. It was also the first aquarium in the world to ever capture and display an Orca whale.
Marine conservation and education is a major focus of the Vancouver Aquarium. It was actually the first aquarium in the world to employ professional naturalists and interpretive specialists in the galleries and exhibits to educate visitors on animal behaviour. It also heavily sponsors and organizes world-wide conservation initiatives, including the collection and removal from the ocean of over 85 metric tons of garbage in 2007.
Everyone’s favourite part though, of course, is the animals. And what show can compare with jumping dolphins? None! It’s by far the highlight of the exhibit, but make sure you get a spot early or else you’ll be forced to climb a tree in order to see.
When you’re in Vancouver, make sure you go see the dolphins (and everything else) at the Vancouver Aquarium.
